Why Your Athlete Needs More Than Just “Senior Photos.”

Most people think of senior photos as a chance to mark the end of high school with that traditional photoshoot where you find a nice location, wear dressier-than-normal clothes, and pose with a smile. But for student athletes, that barely scratches the surface of who they are.

If your child has spent years pouring themselves into a sport - waking up early, grinding through practice, pushing themselves past injury and exhaustion - they deserve more than a standard portrait session. They deserve a photographer who sees the whole picture.

WHAT REGULAR SENIOR PHOTOS MISS

Too many “sports portraits” just throw in a prop, like a jersey over the shoulder, a ball in hand, or maybe a goalpost in the background. But these aren’t real moments. Yes, they’re momentos, but they don’t tell you much about the person they belong to.

Here’s what often gets overlooked:

  • The pre-game stillness, nerves, and rituals

  • The intensity of a sprint, dive, or long-shot

  • The expression when a coach gives them final words

  • The look on their face when the know it’s their last game

These are the moments that tell the whole story of who they are and what they’ve invested these years into.

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE SEEN

As a former Green Beret, I know what it feels like to work hard behind the scenes, to show up with discipline and drive, and to not expect anyone to understand it unless they’ve been there too.

That’s why I don’t “just take pictures” from the sidelines. I’m fully immersed, anticipating what might happen next, watching for cues and calls, and paying attention to what’s happening outside of the action shots. I really believe that great sports photography isn’t about luck, but about being ready to capture what wasn’t expected.

When I work with athletes, I look for:

  • The emotions being loudly shared, as well as the ones being held in

  • Personality quirks that make athletes individuals

  • The support network that’s gotten them here, and that’s cheering them on

I’m not interested in photos that just look good. I want my photos to tell a story, and really mean something - to you, and to them.

WHAT A SESSION CAN LOOK LIKE

Here’s what you can expect from a Student Athlete Session with me:

  • Action images during practice, tournaments, or one-on-one work

  • Portraits that have purpose, not just a list of standard poses

  • Options to include family, coaches, or teammates - the significant people who’ve been part of the journey

We’ll build the session around your athlete’s story, not just a trend.

THIS IS ABOUT MORE THAN A PHOTO

If you want your child to have more than a smiling headshot, and want them to see themselves clearly with pride for what they’ve done, let’s create something you’ll both have for years. I’d love to work with you.
